My Inspirations

There have been a lot of inspirational words and people on my journey to living a simpler, more meaningful life. And while I can't recall them all, there are a few whose words have really resonated, stuck, made me think.

My earliest and most profound realization about stuff came from listening to this stand-up monologue by George Carlin...

"...That's all your house is. It's a place to keep your stuff while you go out and get more stuff."

I have always hoped to live this quote from William Morris...

"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."

I have always wanted a home that brought me the kind of peace I found from looking at pics in this book...

And very recently, in my latest attempt at finally freeing myself from the burden of my possessions, the power they have over me, and the unending cycle of binge-purge consumerism, I discovered The Minimalists and watched their hugely impactful documentary, "Minimalism."

"You're not gonna get happier by consuming more."

"There's nothing wrong with consumption. The problem is compulsory consumption. We're tired of it. We're tired of acquiring things because that's what we're supposed to do."
